The pin sits on a fixed centre bar, so the strap fastens through a punched hole and the loose end needs a keeper. The heel bar is wide and flat, which gives the strap a square edge to fold round. It suits narrow straps - small dog collars, bag and satchel closures, boot and shoe straps, and light tack such as spur straps.
